Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

In addition to the regular set of White-Yellow-Orange-Brown-Green-Red courses an advanced set of Brown-Green-Red courses will be available (Brown+, Green+, Red+). These courses will utilize a map devoid of all man made features, that is no roads, trails, parking lots, buildings, fields, openings and power lines will be plotted on the map.

If you decide to try one of those extra complexity courses, let me know during the registration. Note that we will print only about 10 such maps, so come early 🙂

A few extra comments:

  • It’ll be much easier to get lost and get off the map on these courses, as roads and trails won’t be present, so be sure you are up to the challenge.
  • Unlike regular courses, you’ll be given the map after you punch the start box.
