Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Members event – Lake Johnson – July 9, 2017

We will have a members event at Lake Johnson on Sunday July 9 from 11am to 2pm. There will be two orange level courses of 2.8km and 3.2km plus a yellow course of 2.6km. Rather than our more usual summer sprint events, these courses will have fewer controls (8 or 9). If you are already at orange level or above, try one or both orange courses. If you’re moving up to orange, these courses should be a good introduction for you.

You must pre-register for this event here, before 5:00 PM on Friday, July 7, so that we know how many maps to print.

The event starts at 11am and everybody must finish by 2pm. Last starts at 1pm. Note the starting time is 11am.

Course details
Yellow 2.6km 9 controls
Orange-A 2.8km 8 controls
Orange-B 3.2km 9 controls

As always, help with control pick-up would be greatly appreciated.

Directions

Take Avent Ferry Rd to the parking lot that is south of the lake and just before you reach I-40. Starts will be along the trail South-East of the parking lot.

Many thanks to Mark Elmore for allowing us to use Lake Johnson.
