Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Open Sprint at Schenck Forest

August 20th (on a Saturday), at 10AM, we will have an Open event at Schenck Forest.

The event is open for members and non-members alike.

There will be a beginners/white/yellow course that should start easily and get a bit more difficult towards the end. There will also be two Sprint courses for intermediate and advanced runners. Unlike our usual open events, there will not be an introductory class.

Since it’s summer (vacations… people out of town… the beach…) and very hot, it is hard to anticipate attendance. In order to estimate how many maps to print, registration is required. Under the Course Choice drop-down, please pick “White” if you plan to run the beginners’ course and “Orange” if you plan to run one or both advanced ones. I will try to reuse maps as well.

Please remember that dogs are not allowed, even on a leash.

Also, please consider coming early, since I would really like to start picking up controls at noon, in order to not expose everybody to the heat for longer than necessary. Help with control pickup is appreciated, as usual 🙂
