Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Everyone Welcome Jan. 21 Umstead North

We expect our “Open” January 21 event at Umstead Park to go on as scheduled.

Umstead Park is supposed to open late today, Friday, 1/19/18, so there should be no problem for our event on Sunday.  Their closure information is on the Umstead Park Facebook page.

We will have a full selection of courses from Beginner to Expert.  There will be an introductory class at 12:30 that covers the basic of process of orienteering, map reading, and using the compass.

The start is at the large shelter at the North side of Umstead Park.  Enter from US 70 (Glenwood Ave) and follow the park road to the parking lots at the end of the road.  You should see BOK signs pointing to the shelter.

If you are bringing a group of 5 or more people please preregister for this event NO LATER THAN Noon Friday January 19.

If you are bringing a bus for your group, please email
info@backwoodsok.org
by Thursday January 18 so I can let the park know what to expect.

Preliminary course information:
White 2.0km 10 controls
Yellow 2.7km 14 controls
Orange 3.6km 11 controls
Brown 3.7km 10 controls

We are offering small group advanced (yellow to orange) and expert (brown) training between 10:30 and noon. See Advanced in-the-Forest Instruction for more information and to register

As always, help with control pick-up would be greatly appreciated.
