Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

July 8 Open meet at Dorothea Dix Park

On Sunday, July 8 we will hold an open sprint event at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, starting near the intersection of Hunt Drive and Umstead Drive. This event is now approved.

The available courses will be:

  • Beginner (white): 2.0km 12 controls
  • Sprint A: 2.5km
  • Sprint B: 2.3km 11 controls/li>

You may do one or more of the courses.The sprint courses are approximately orange level. If you’re new to orienteering start with the white course.

There will be a beginner class at 10:30.

The start will be open from 10AM until noon and you must finish by 1 PM when control pickup will begin. Help with pickup is always appreciated.

From Western Blvd take Hunt Drive to the end and turn right on Umstead Drive. Start will be in the gazebo about 100m or so along Umstead Drive.
