Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

National Orienteering Day, Umstead North, Sept 9

BOK will be holding an event to celebrate National Orienteering Day on September 9, 2012 at Umstead North (off US-70, then follow the signs to the last parking lot and finally up to the large shelter).

This will be a Regular event. Everyone is welcome. There will be courses for beginners, intermediate, and advanced orienteers. The courses will be open by 10:00am (this is a little earlier than we usually open Regular events).

There will be a class for beginners at 12:30, explaining both how to read a map and how our orienteering events work.  If you wish to attend the beginners class, it is recommended that you show up around 12:00 and go through registration so that you already have your map in hand for the class.

All courses will close by 3:00pm, and controls will be picked up at that time.

Boyscouts, Girlscouts, JROTC, and other groups are welcome. Remember, if you intend to bring a group of more than 5 people, please follow the group registration procedure so we know how many extra maps to print out.

Finally, it is time to renew club memberships, which run from September to September of the following year.  Membership for one year is $25 for individuals and $35 for families.  You do not have to be a member to attend BOK events. Look here for details.
