Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Umstead South Event, Sunday 20 Sept, Everyone welcome!

On Sunday (20 Sept) we will be back to the south side of Umstead for a regular orienteering event.  Everyone is welcome.  We will conduct a beginner’s class at 12:30, and will offer courses for every ability and endurance level.  Compete, or just have fun.  Go individually, or in a group.  Go with another human, or with a dog.

Start any time between noon and 2:00 from the shelter that is northwest of the Reedy Creek parking area (earlier starts for advanced courses can probably be accommodated if you contact the event director).  Directions to the event are here.

Reminder:  Klub memberships run through August, so if you haven’t already renewed, this meet is a great opportunity to join or renew.

If you plan on bringing a group of more than 5 people, please email the event director (David Waller) at dw.orienteer@gmail.com to let him know so that we can print enough maps for everyone.

Course lengths:  White (1.7km); Yellow (2.6km); Orange (3.9km); Brown (4.3km); Green (5.6km); Red (7.8km); Blue (9.9km).
