October 23, 2011 Umstead West It was perfect weather for an advanced meet.  Most people found Artem’s course design and control placement challenging, and even when I picked up controls in reverse order to make it easier some were hard to spot.  Placing the start/finish on the main road attracted some interest from mountain bikers…

We had terrific weather and an excellent turnout.  We had one of the most concealed controls ever on the advanced course.  It was shown as a “Special Feature – Under” and it was inside an old rusty barrel that was open on both ends in the middle of a re-entrant.  We have been offering maps with no man-made features…

Quiet orienteering day, with a good number of people showing up.
