Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Gray Owl Map Critique Results

We had a beautiful sunny day. 10 people ran the course and to my delight everyone thought the map was very good. There were a few minor details about different ways of interpreting an area, and some rocky ground that I missed, however I am encouraged to continue my mapping.

We only had 6 controls with SI-boxes so those who wanted splits recorded them. One took a picture at each control and others used their watches to take splits. Those that didn’t take splits were given a split time of one minute, so you can tell that the split wasn’t recorded.
