Lake Crabtree Members Farsta Relay – Sun June 17 – CANCELED

Update (June 16, 2018) We are canceling this event because of low enrollment and the bike race also taking place.

Update (June 15, 2018) I was informed this week that Triangle Off-Road Cyclists (TORC) will also have a 6 hour mountain bike race on Sunday. Parking may be difficult and you will need to take extra care crossing trails. Please do not park in the very last parking lot. Please check back here for any last-minute updates before driving to the park.

We will have a Members Farsta relay at Lake Crabtree County Park (especially for farsta’s day). This is a one-man relay where each participant runs two relay loops. The course is made up of intersecting loops. The number of shared forking controls determines the possible number of relay legs. For example, imagine a figure 8 where you start at the bottom. You can go right or left and when you get to the middle you can go right or left again. So 4 possible courses. Next time round you make the opposite choice, so all runners eventually run the same total set of course segments, but following might be very risky as two people may set off in different directions at a shared control.

We will be starting at 11:00 rather than noon. Registration is no longer available as the event is canceled.

There will be orientation to the event format and course assignment at 11:00 and a mass start around 11:15. If you can’t make the mass start, we can start you individually later. Last start no later than 1:00 and courses close at 2:00.

Course level is orange and there are 10 controls on each of the two legs. Legs range from 1.9km to 2.3km with a total for each of your two legs about 4.2km.

If you’d rather do a 2.2kn single course that’s an option. It’s still orange level, but register for yellow so I know that you’re just doing one course.

Start will be at a picnic table near the small amphitheater just east of the parking lot after the boat rental parking lot. This lot is the 5th driveway on the right after the park entrance. Look for signs to amphitheater, Dogwood shelter and White Oak shelter. The park entrance is at 1400 Aviation Parkway (First light south from I-40 exit 285). There will not be the usual BOK signs.

As usual for advanced events, pre-registration is required by Friday June 15. This is particularly important for this format as there are two distinct maps for each competitor. register for orange if you want to do the relay and yellow if you want to do the single course.

Ticks are likely to be out, so take appropriate precautions.
