Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

We have arranged for a model event at Umstead Park for Friday from Noon – 5pm.

The different features you will visit if you take the Model Event.

You can pick up your map at the Hampton Inn Hotel Desk (even if you are not staying at the hotel).  Maps are $5 each.  You will sign for your map at the hotel desk, and then pay the $5 at the event registration when you pick up your packet.  The model event starts between the two main picnic parking areas.  It is 1.8K in length and has 8 controls.

Shuttle trips can be arranged at the desk if you are staying at the Hampton Inn Brier Creek.

The Model event visits a collection of features that are similar to those used in the competitive events.  While you are navigating please keep in mind that some of the very large recent rootstocks are not not the map while older rootstocks that are now smaller do show on the map.
