Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Update from your President

Save Umstead from the Quarry

The SW corner of our Umstead Map is an area that we used for many years, Odd Fellows – until the airport stopped giving us permission. Now the airport wants to allow Wake Stone to turn it into a quarry. I would like BOK to to support the “Stop the Quarry” movement. Let me know how you feel. Check out the Facebook site “RDU Forrest”.

Ruth Bromer the F70 USA Champ

Ruth won all three events at the US Champs in California – Middle, Long, & Sprint, and is now the F70 US Champ

Joseph Huberman elected to the OUSA Board of Directors

At the Annual General Meeting Joseph was elected to the OUSA – United States Orienteering Federation Board of Directors and then selected by the Board to be on the executive committee as the Vice President of club services.

We are still sailing in Maine and plan to be home in early October – have fun in the woods!

  1. Hi. I did attend a viewing of the StopRDU documentary last month and do believe there are compelling arguments against the present plans of wake stone and rdu airport. I’m not on Facebook but I agree that bok should support the efforts of the Stop the Quarry movement.
