Orienteering Raleigh NC

Backwoods Orienteering Klub, founded November 15, 1978 sponsors events and teaches orienteering in the North Carolina piedmont, around Raleigh, NC.

We invite you to try orienteering with us. Everyone is welcome at all our events. We always offer beginning, intermediate, advanced and expert courses (routes through the woods) at every Regular event.

Regular event at Umstead South, Sunday April 14

We will have a regular orienteering event this Sunday, April 14, at Umstead South (at the Harrison exit off I-40). This event is open to everyone, and there will be a beginner’s class at 12:30 for anyone who wants to learn how to orienteer.

If you are bringing a large group, please remember to preregister your group so that we know how many extra maps to print out.

Ticks are active again now that warm weather is upon us. The club recommends using Sawyer Permethrin spray for clothing to keep these arachnids at bay. (Spray it on your clothing and then let it dry before wearing; don’t spray it directly on yourself, or anywhere around cats.)

Again, given the warm weather, Ken. and Terese will be opening the courses to early runners as soon as controls are out in the woods; we expect starts to be possible by around 10:00am. Starts will end at 2:00pm and controls will be picked up starting at 3:00pm.
