  • Results, Carolina North Score-O, March 6

A perfect spring day greeted 31 intrepid orienteers as they tackled a new “progressive scoring” Score-O event. The new format was generally well-received but the progressive scoring played more of a factor in the 2hr than 1hr, with William Allen gaining three spots based on the number of progressive controls obtained. For the 2hr runners,…

  • Results: 8/23 Crabtree Sprint

Lake Crabtree County Park is a convenient, accessible park in the heart of the triangle, and is very popular on the weekends. It has a good system of mountain biking trails which are well maintained through the joint efforts of the parks system and Triangle Off-Road Cyclists (TORC). This means that trails are constantly being…

On August 23, we will be holding a sprint orienteering event at Lake Crabtree County Park.  The event is open to everyone, but we will not be offering beginner classes nor instruction.  Registration will be in or near the Dogwood shelter. • Results for Umstead North Feb 23

The weather today was perfect for orienteering and 101 individuals or groups showed up for some fun running through the open woods. Because of the great weather, many people registered later than normal and I did not have an accurate count when I printed maps. So for a short time we ran out of Orange…

  • March 3 Schenck Results

We had a great turnout for yesterday’s event at Schenck. There were 112 starts, and one of the largest beginners classes I have seen. We had six groups pre-register, with 75 participants among them. Many beginners saw enough success on their first course, that they came back and tried a second. The advanced courses took…

  • Results for June 3 Sprints at Bond Park

It was a great day for orienteering on June 3 at Bond Park – sunny and warm, but manageable.  Runners had their choice of four separate maps (Beginner: 1.6km, Sprint A: 2.6km, Sprint B: 2.7km and “The Whole Enchilada”: 5.3km).  Sprints A and B had shortcut options that allowed runners to make a 2.0km course.  …

  • June 3 Sprints in Bond Park

On Sunday, June 3 we will hold an open sprint event at Bond Park, starting at the Buehler shelter (near the boathouse).  This event is open to anyone ready to run an orange course, but due to the nature of the park should be easier than other orange courses in the area.  We will also…

  • Results for March 11 Members Event

On Sunday March 11, 18 advanced orienteers braved the rain and unseasonable cold to explore the west side of Umstead. Three courses were offered on one map, so competitors could choose to switch courses in the middle of their run.  The course was tough and exacerbated by the rain which limited visibility, especially for those…
